In order to claim your actual car expenses (fuel, insurance, repairs etc) you must have a valid 12-week logbook with odometer readings at the start and end of every trip.
If you haven’t kept a valid logbook then we will need to use the cents per km method to claim your car deductions instead. This is a maximum of 5,000km x 78 cents per km, giving a maximum deduction of $3,900. (For the 2024 financial year this will increase to 5,000 x 85cpkm = $4,250). You do not need any records for this, the ATO will accept a reasonable estimate of your kms.
